Course Overview
Domestic Abuse (DA) is more than just physical abuse. During the relationship, domestic violence can be coercive control, physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, and financial abuse. When the relationship ends, the abuse does not stop, it just transitions to a new form of abuse referred to as post separation abuse (PSA).
This course will explore the various tactics of PSA that perpetrators introduce to continue their campaign of power and control over victim-survivors’ lives. The session will highlight how post-separation abuse includes a variety of interpersonal as well as formal tactics – illustrating how perpetrators are able to facilitate abuse through institutions, such as banks, and via legal processes which are intended to provide justice.
The session will also address practical ways to respond to survivors who choose to disclose instances of PSA
